March 6, 2004 — Childbirth Classes & Counting Down...

Jer and I went to our refresher childbirth class and toured the hospital. There were three reasons I decided to do the refresher course: one, to get a tour of the birthing unit; two, so Jer can learn all sorts of neat massage techniques; last but not least, I was really hoping that in the 9 years since Eik's birth they had discovered STAR TREK birthing techniques.

On point one, the birthing unit was very nice — I am sold on the private rooms and the 48-hour stay. On point two, since I've been home I have had my back rolling-pinned, my feet massaged, and my hands rubbed. YEAH! On a major downer — modern medicine still requires me to do most of the work.

A Big Thank You! Thank you to Diane Gartner — we were all delighted with the baby blanket. My cousin Suz, an avid crocheter, said that the material used is hard to work with, and I'm impressed you could get even, beautiful stitching with such a fuzzy yarn. It's incredibly soft and I admit I will be afraid to wash it. To view the blankie, see the Handmade Treasures page — the picture does not do it justice; it's something you have to touch to appreciate.

Congratulations! Goes to our cousins, Erica and Greg on their big announcement. Another BOY in the family will be a JOY!

January 5, 2004 — Our Due Date Has Changed!!

After our 21-weeks ultrasound, Jer and I were told that Baby Gartner is now due May 10th, 2004. I am starting to wonder if this baby might show up in late April? Eli & Eik were both born at 38 weeks — anyone wanting to make a guess on the baby pool for late April might have a winner!

Jer and I found out the baby's gender at the ultrasound, but for now we are keeping it under wraps. When we announce it, we will probably announce the name we decided on as well. Eli was okay with not knowing, just a little disappointed. Eik was all over me like a spider monkey — he is very excited about his new brother or sister. In fact, he says he will even keep the baby's gender a secret from Eli. Yeah, sure!
